Google and LG do not want to buy Snapdragon 865 from Qualcomm because the price is too expensive
Will these two companies not have smartphones with the most advanced processors this year?
Qualcomm's Snapdragon 865 high-end processor has once again raised the performance standards for Android smartphones, along with an important step to bringing 5G networks into practice.
There are already a number of companies adopting new processors on their products such as Samsung with the Galaxy S20 trio, OPPO with the Find X2 / Find X2 Pro duo, but it seems that not all companies are happy to do this. According to the latest reports, Google and LG may not buy Snapdragon 865 for their new smartphones this year, and will use lower-end processors.
According to XDA, the Pixel 5 and Pixel 5 XL versions will use Snapdragon 765G instead of 865. The Korean news site also confirms that the upcoming LG G9 ThinQ will do the same, for the first time in History of a LG G-series smartphone will not have a high-end processor. HMD recently launched Nokia 8.3, and users only have the Snapdragon 765G.
The reason being given is that the application of Snapdragon 865 to smartphones makes their selling price much more expensive. Understanding the structure of this processor, it is found that it did not have a built-in network modem, manufacturers would like to buy an additional chip called Modem X55.
There is one more chip, which means that the price of the finished product will be higher, the design of smartphone board is more complicated, and all these costs will be paid by the user. In addition, the Snapdragon 865 also uses a huge amount of power, emitting a lot of heat so manufacturers will have to `` headache '' to find a way to dissipate the heat, increasing the battery capacity to not affect the final experience.
The Snapdragon 765G is a lower-performance processor than 865, but it has one huge advantage: it has a built-in 5G network modem. Using 765G, LG and Google will only have to buy a single product, designing products that are simple, cool and more energy efficient. If you are looking for a new smartphone to upgrade in 2020 but do not have a 'purse' to buy flagships with Snapdragon 865 then wait a bit longer, the options with 765G are coming very close.
