Apple considers removing Qualcomm chips on iPhones and iPads next year

Amidst escalating tension on legal issues of Qualcomm, The Wall Street Journal said Apple is designing 2018 iPhone and iPad models without Qualcomm LTE chips.

Instead, Apple is considering using chips from Intel or MediaTek for its next-generation devices.

It is believed that Qualcomm is refusing to bring the software Apple needs to test LTE chips on its iPhone and iPad models. The Wall Street Journal said Qualcomm did so after Apple sued them in January. But Qualcomm said Apple had already tested it and that they "made a commitment to support Apple devices."

According to WSJ, Apple's decision to stop using Qualcomm chips for devices in 2018 may change. They can move the house by June or 3 months before launching the 2018 iPhone as planned.
