Samsung is said to be developing a smart ring called the Galaxy Ring, which is equipped with many sensors that collect user health data and send it to smartphones.
Since 2022, Samsung has applied for a patent on a smart ring and has also applied for the name Galaxy Ring.
According to the patent filing, the Galaxy Ring uses a circuit board manufactured by Japan's Meiko, which can measure heart rate and body temperature thanks to its ECG and PPG sensors. In addition, the ring can also control other smart devices in the family such as TVs thanks to SmartThings integration.
Samsung's finger wearable device when combined with virtual reality glasses can position the hand, helping the glasses recognize user gestures, making control easier and more accurate.
Smart rings due to tighter finger contact should be expected to measure health parameters more accurately than smartwatches.
Currently on the market, only smart rings with health sensors and Bluetooth connection support of Oura winch from Finland appear on the market. Oura's ring weighs 4-6 grams and has a week of battery life.
Currently, Samsung has not determined when to announce the Galaxy Ring. The company is testing a prototype jointly built by it and Meiko, thereby determining whether it can be mass-produced.
Meanwhile, Samsung had planned to launch virtual reality glasses next year, the product was previously delayed due to the device's screen being of poor quality compared to the OLED screen on Apple's Vision Pro.
