According to the patent filing, Galaxy Ring uses a circuit board manufactured by Meiko of Japan, which can measure heart rate and body temperature thanks to being equipped with ECG and PPG sensors. In addition, the ring can also control other smart devices in the home such as TVs thanks to SmartThings integration.

Samsung's finger wear device, when combined with virtual reality glasses, can position the hand, helping the glasses recognize user gestures, making control easier and more accurate.

Smart rings, because they come into closer contact with the finger, are expected to more accurately measure health parameters than smartwatches.

Currently on the market, there are only smart rings with health sensors and Bluetooth connection support from Oura from Finland. Oura's rings weigh 4-6 grams and have a week of battery life.

Currently, Samsung is testing the prototype jointly created by the company and Meiko, thereby considering whether it can mass produce the product or not.

Meanwhile, Samsung had planned to launch virtual reality glasses next year, the product was previously postponed due to the device's screen being of poorer quality compared to the OLED screen on Apple's Vision Pro.

Following a teaser in January, Samsung has confirmed plans to show off the Galaxy Ring at MWC 2024 this week. In a post, Samsung confirmed that the Galaxy Ring will be available at Samsung's booth at Mobile World Congress 2024.

Samsung will showcase its smart healthcare product line at MWC, bringing users even more seamless and personalized health experiences with the transformative power of AI, across more devices . As part of this portfolio, Galaxy Ring is being launched as a new medical device that simplifies daily healthcare, supporting smarter and healthier living through its healthcare platform. Digital healthcare is more connected - according to Samsung Health.

While Samsung didn't provide another look at the Galaxy Ring in the post, the company said that the wearable will be 'shown publicly for the first time'. That implies that Samsung won't let anyone try out or use any of the device's functions, but that's not surprising.

Samsung is expected to launch the Galaxy Ring at the Unpacked event later this year.
