On Feb. 19, Xinhua News Agency, the Chinese news agency, issued a statement about the creation of the virtual female announcer running on the world's first artificial intelligence (AI). The virtual announcer is named Tan Xiaotang and will be officially aired on Chinese television in March.
Tan Tieu Manh is a product created by the cooperation between Xinhua and Sogou search engine. This virtual announcer could blink, move her hand while speaking in front of the camera like a real person.
In November 2018, Xinhua had surprised the tech world by launching the world's first virtual radio announcer on the annual China Internet Conference. Xinhua and Sogou added that they have developed another male virtual announcer who can move more like a human, especially a lip movement.
Xinhua said their virtual broadcasters have completed their roles quite well. Since its launch, virtual broadcasters have published about 3400 newsletters in more than 10,000 minutes.
It seems, Xinhua News Agency is getting closer and closer to making human broadcasters obsolete.
