With so many attractions, if you are new to Hong Kong, you may have a hard time choosing a destination. Hong Kong Island , home to bustling Central? Kowloon, which comes alive at night? The quieter New Territories with its beaches and wetlands?

There are so many Hong Kong itineraries to browse on the internet, so this article will compile the most interesting experiences for everyone in this country.

Experience an Old Hong Kong Style Meal

Tucked away in a street market in Tsuen Wan is a dim sum restaurant called Old Fung Tea House. From its 60s and 70s-themed décor to its traditional dishes made with 50-year-old recipes, this eatery offers a glimpse into old Hong Kong.

In addition to dim sum, this eatery offers a variety of delicious dishes — from easy-to-make classics like siomai and siopao, to the famous puff pastry.

Morning stroll through the markets in Central

Central is where it all happens. As Hong Kong's financial district, it is packed with shopping malls, restaurants, cafes and other establishments.

But tucked away among the bustling streets are some wonderful old markets. In addition to dried seafood and fresh fruit and vegetables, the markets paint a picture of the daily lives of the locals — what they eat and how they prepare it, their morning routines, their love of chilli sauce.

A morning stroll through Central will also give you some of the best views of the city—as long as you can stomach the streets and slopes.

Try Salted Sprite

There is an unnamed restaurant in Shek Tong Tsui called Wing Hop Sing that serves a great clay pot lunch.

Main course options include chicken, beef, eel and lapcheong, while drinks are the usual soft drinks. In particular, you should try the 'Salted Lemon Sprite'. This drink is 'very Hong Kong'. Locals mix salted plums or salted lemons into the soft drink — aside from the interesting taste, it also has the benefit of energizing the body after a morning of walking around.

Strolling around Mongkok at night

While in Hong Kong, be sure to visit Mongkok, preferably at night. Mongkok is beautiful in photos, whether bathed in sunlight or in shadow, but when night falls, the streets of this district come alive with neon lights and billboards.

This isn't the only place in Hong Kong where this sight can be found, but if shopping and dining are also on your agenda, this is a great place to cross each one off your to-do list.

For snacks and dinner, there are countless stalls and shops to choose from. For shoes, there is a whole sneaker street. There is the Ladies Market, famous for its bargains. Nathan Road is not far from the station and that route will take you to even more shops.

Watch a documentary at the Space Museum

If you're after an afternoon of culture, hit the museums — there's the Hong Kong Museum of Art in Tsim Sha Tsui, the Hong Kong Film Archive on Hong Kong Island, and M+ in West Kowloon.

If you want to go somewhere a little different but still full of wonder, there is an egg-shaped building in Tsim Sha Tsui — the Hong Kong Space Museum. Inside there are many interactive exhibits and short information about space & the universe. Every few minutes there is a show about the Big Bang to entertain visitors at the end of the exhibition hall.

But arguably the most exciting part is the 3D documentary screening in the Space Cinema. The show is projected onto the dome-shaped ceiling and when wearing 3D glasses, it is definitely an immersive experience and you can walk out of the museum with a useful knowledge of Antarctica.

Overall, there is no limit to the pleasures that Hong Kong has to offer. Hong Kong is a fascinating foreign tourist destination. If you have the chance, you should definitely visit here at least once in your life.
