Apple's criticisms seem to be targeting directly to Samsung's Motorola Xoom or Galaxy Tab models.
Apple CEO (COO), Tim Cook, said " touches " to his rivals in the tablet market during a meeting about financial results in the first quarter of 2011.
With Apple, the 7-inch size for a tablet like Galaxy Tab is "bizarre".
He divided the rivals into two with Android on one side and Windows on the other but thought the device running Google's OS was more ominous. However, Apple executives also reiterated criticism to the 7-inch screen tablet, saying that they are too small and lack of optimization for use and not a real threat to iPad. Currently on the market, Android tablet models have 7 inch size quite like Galaxy Tab, Archos Home Tablet 7 or upcoming Dell Streak 7 .
Tim Cook also said there was no clear prediction of the future of tablets running Android 3.0 like Motorola Xoom. None of these devices has been marketed. So he calls Android 3.0 now just a "bragging" while calling a small tablet (referring to a size of 7 inches or less) is bizarre.
Android 3.0 needs actual user use to prove what Google says.
The CEO also publicly dismissed tablets running Windows from the race, saying they were "too big, heavy and expensive", while having very low battery life. Users also need to have a keyboard or pen to enter data, which is not appropriate in this market. "From our point of view and what we have seen, users just don't need to care about them (tablet running Windows)," added Tim Cook.
Meanwhile, Tim Cook hardly commented on the next generation iPad and said that Apple certainly could not sit still and continue to hold its position on the current tablet market. iTunes and the App Store will still be hard to beat from Apple products.
iPad 2 is expected to have at least "stunned" competitors such as Motorola Xoom, BlackBerry PlayBook or even a tablet running HP's webOS launched in the next few days.
The iPad 2 is expected to have a high-resolution Retina display of 2,048 x 1,536 pixels, an Apple A5 multi-core chip with a speed of 1 GHz, a redesigned iPod Touch and an SD card slot.
