Qualcomm introduced Snapdragon 700 chip line

This new processor line will be between mid-range 600 and high-end 800.

At the 2018 Mobile World Congres event, Qualcomm announced it will release a new line of processors: the Snapdragon 700. The new chip line is in the middle, between the Snapdragon 600 series - often found in mid-range devices - and High-end 800 chips - can be seen on today's high-end segment phones like the Snapdragon 845 on Galaxy S9.

The new chip is like a trade-off between price and power, more advanced but still works on mid-range devices that aren't as expensive as the top flagship Android devices. "The Snapdragon 700 Mobile Platform Series will bring more advanced features and technologies to mid-range devices," said Alex Katouzian, Qualcomm's vice president and director.

Qualcomm specifically emphasizes the ability to improve the AI and camera as well as the speed and power of the device that the 700 chip line brings, compared to the 600 series. The actual parameters are still unknown, but Qualcomm says the new line will be able to calculate AI twice as much as the Snapdragon 660 and will save up to 30% power, along with longer battery life and faster running.

Qualcomm plans to deliver Snapdragon 700 chips to customers in the first half of 2018, meaning we may see devices running the new chip sometime later this year or early 2019.
