Nvidia reveals RTX 5060 graphics card launch date
If you're planning on buying Nvidia's most affordable RTX 50 series graphics card, mark your calendars for May 19. Nvidia has just officially confirmed the earlier rumors that the RTX 5060 will launch later this May with an expected starting price of $299.
Worthwhile upgrade over RTX 4060
Nvidia's XX60 series of cards has always been popular for its affordable price and impressive performance, becoming the most popular GPU on Steam. The RTX 5060 retains the same $299 price as the RTX 4060 but offers the following improvements:
- CUDA core count increased : 3,840 cores (compared to 3,072 cores on RTX 4060).
- Faster memory : 28 Gbps speeds (up from 17 Gbps) with 448 GB/s bandwidth (nearly double the RTX 4060's 272 GB/s).
- Support for new technologies : DLSS 4 (multi-frame generation), ray-tracing cores and new generation tensors of RTX 50 series.
However, there are still some downsides worth mentioning. For example, despite the upgrade to GDDR7, the 8GB of VRAM that Nvidia equipped on the RTX 5060 is still a significant limitation, especially in the context of modern games often requiring 12GB or more. Rumors suggest that Nvidia may fix this problem with the RTX 50 SUPER series in the future.
Laptop and game versions support DLSS 4
On the same day of launch, laptops with integrated RTX 5060 will be priced from just $ 1,099. In addition, a series of new games added to support DLSS 4 include:
- MechWarrior 5: Clans
- New World: Aeternum
- Spirit of the North 2
With the same price but significantly improved performance, the RTX 5060 promises to continue to dominate the mid-range card segment. However, the VRAM problem is still a challenge for Nvidia to maintain its appeal in the context of rival AMD increasing memory capacity.
