Mayor of Lodon, Mr. Boris Johnson, announced that the capital of England would welcome the 5G network by 2020.
London will build 5G network through a research project with Surrey University. Currently 5G network is only in development stage and there is no specific standard yet. However, many experts believe that the speed of 5G networks can be up to 10Gbps, which is many times faster than the current 4G network.
Boris Johnson said London would be "Europe's high-tech capital" and the launch of the 5G network would strengthen its position. The Mayor revealed London's infrastructure improvement plan this week and 5G is an important part of that roadmap. "We ensure the quality of connections will be the best. Quickly improving this city's connection is an important part of London's infrastructure development plan," Boris Johnson said.
Two months ago, the alliance of major manufacturers including Samsung, NTT DoCoMo and NEC . worked together to develop the 5G network. However, there is no consensus about the standard of this network at the moment so the London mayor's statement is considered quite optimistic. But even so, London still has full potential to do that.
