From the beginning of next year, HP will start selling laptops equipped with "Enviro" batteries that are much more durable than current batteries.

HP and Boston Power had to test the lithium-ion Sonata battery within 3 years. This battery is only for laptops with a long time of use. Testing showed that after 3 years of use, the battery's efficiency was still 80% compared to the original.

Typically, laptop battery performance drops sharply after about 150 charges. However, the new HP battery can charge up to 1,000 times but remains new.

HP representative on December 9 said that Sonata batteries will be more expensive than traditional batteries at about 20-30USD, and will be built into some new models of HP laptops with a 3-year warranty period (applicable for battery).

Enviro's battery has been advertised as being environmentally friendly by HP. The battery does not use PVC or other solid metals such as cadmium, arsenic or mercury during production. The battery can be recycled and certified as a 'green' battery.

HP also plans to launch mobile phone lithium-ion batteries and other digital devices.
