How to replace the iPad battery

If your warranty is still there, visit the Apple support website at:

https://support.apple.com/ipad/repair/service#battery

Click the Start a service request button (near the bottom) and fill out the form. You can also book an appointment at the Apple Store and bring your iPad.

Remember to back up before handing over the iPad to avoid data loss. It will take about 3 to 5 days to replace or repair your iPad.

If you're still determined to replace your iPad battery yourself, here are detailed instructions that may help.

Step 1:

  1. Wear safety glasses to protect your eyes and be careful not to damage the LCD screen.
  2. If your screen glass has cracked, use tape on the screen to prevent it from further cracking during operation.

Step 2:

There are 14 metal pegs that fix the screen as shown in the illustration. Try to open them carefully, avoiding breaking.

Step 3:

Use a metal spudger (a specialized tool to open Apple products) between the top edge of the screen and the rear panel assembly.

Move the spudger along the edges of the screen to separate it. Be careful and gentle to avoid damaging the device.

Step 4:

Lift the monitor and disconnect the 3 cables that attach it to the back board, including:

  1. Digitizer (digitizer)
  2. Light Sensor
  3. Display Data Cable (allows data to be displayed on the screen)

Step 5:

Remove the screws that attach the board to the rear panel assembly.

Step 6:

  1. Use the edge of the plastic open tool to carefully remove the dock cable connector from the board.
  2. Lift the board out of the rear panel assembly.

Step 7:

Remove 2 2.84 mm screws attach the speaker and rear panel assembly. Then remove the screw that attaches the dock cable to the rear panel assembly, and the 2.84 mm screws attach the dock cable to the case.

Step 8:

Using the plastic open tool, carefully remove the plastic cover that covers the WiFi / Bluetooth board and the docking cable.

Step 9:

Carefully lift the WiFi and Bluetooth antenna from the corresponding socket on the WiFi / Bluetooth board.

Step 10:

Lift the connector cable from the rear panel assembly.

Step 11:

Pull the speaker cable from the left side of the battery box and the WiFi antenna in the speaker assembly.

Step 12:

Lift the speaker assembly and push it forward, to remove the speaker from the rear panel assembly.

Step 13:

The battery is attached to the rear panel by an adhesive. Use the flat end of a spudger to gently lift the battery from the bottom case. When there is enough space, you can manually separate the battery from the adhesive. Please proceed with patience and caution.

Step 14:

To reattach the device, follow the instructions above, but in the opposite order.
