Decode dozens of unique tattoos on 3,000-year-old Egyptian mummies
During excavations near Deir el-Medina, Egypt, experts found a mummy about 3,000 years old. According to them, the female mummy has dozens of 'unique' tattoos all over her body suspected to be religious symbols.
In 2016, an Egyptian female mummy was found near Deir el-Medina. According to experts, this woman lived around 1300 BC to 1070 BC.
When examining the mummy, researchers discovered more than 30 tattoos on the armpits, shoulders, back, arms, and hips.
At about 3,000 years old, the woman's mummy is still quite intact. Accordingly, the tattoos on her body are still quite clear.
According to experts, a woman who lived about 3,000 years ago had tattoos: lotus flowers, cows, baboons and many pairs of wadjet eyes (evil eyes) all over her body.
The research team speculates that the above tattoos are likely religious symbols.
'When you look at this woman from any angle, you can see magical eyes looking back at you,' said archaeologist Anne Austin.
Archaeologist Anne added that it is possible that the more than 30 tattoos on the woman's mummy may simply be to prove this person's piety or have a meaning of giving divine power to the tattooed person.
Unlike many ancient mummies with simple tattoos, the tattoos on the body of a woman over 3,000 years old have many meticulous and sophisticated details.
