The computer world in 2006 began with a sad number when 2,312 computer viruses were discovered in January 2006, announced by Sophos network security specialist.
According to the white-hat hacker group working for Sophos, the number of newly created computer virus programs that were identified in January 2006 reached a record number of 2,312, more than one-third compared to December 2005. In particular, the Sober-Z virus topped the total table (spread to many computers) but stopped spreading from January 6 but replaced it with new virus Kama Sutra (Nyxem-D) and three old viruses reappear.
The new worm Nyxem-D appears in various forms of porn email and automatically propagates back to other addresses when disabling security software. Nyxem-D has also been programmed to delete files from February 3.
Sophos analysts said in January, 1.4% of online messages were viruses (1/70).
