Apple confirms the use of Google Cloud for iCloud services
And stopped talking about Microsoft Azure.
Apple confirms that it is using Google's shared cloud service to store data for its iCloud services in the latest iOS Security Guide. According to CNBC, Apple has been using Google's cloud service since 2016 but has never confirmed it before.
Earlier, Apple used Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure data storage systems. The iOS Security Guide version in March 2017 still names Microsoft Azure instead of Google Cloud Platform.
iCloud uses 3rd party storage services
The iCloud service described by Apple is 'stored encrypted file chain, no information identifying the user, using 3rd party storage services like Amazon S3 and Google Cloud Platform.'
Information from CNBC also does not indicate whether Apple will use Google's cloud services outside of storing images and videos as well as when they transfer hosting services.
Apple and Google have not commented on the news.
