What is Asean? Asean has many member countries participating

For those in Southeast Asia, there is no stranger to the Asean name. Asean is an acronym for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, also known as the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, established in August 1967 in Bangkok by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the founding countries of China. Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand and Singapore.

The ASEAN Community is a group of Southeast Asian nations engaged in cooperation to help each other develop economy, culture, build peace and have a common voice on world forums.

At the ASEAN 9 Summit in Bali, Indonesia in October 2003, leaders of ASEAN countries decided to build ASEAN Community by 2020 with 3 main pillars in the fields of security - defense, economy and sociocultural.

The overall goal of the ASEAN Community is to make the Association a 'harmonious group of Southeast Asian peoples, engaged in a community of societies that embrace each other'.

Currently, Asean has 10 participating countries including:

Five countries founded and joined Asean on August 8, 1976

Republic of Indonesia

Federation of Malaysia

Republic of the Philippines

Republic of Singapore

Thailand Kingdom

The following countries join:

Brunei Kingdom (January 8, 1984)

Socialist Republic of Vietnam (July 28, 1995)

Lao People's Democratic Republic (July 23, 1997)

Myanmar Federation (July 23, 1997)

Kingdom of Cambodia (April 30, 1999)
