The duel between snakes and woodpeckers

A video recording a rare fight between a woodpecker and a 3m long snake in the Amazon forest surprised many people.

The confrontation took place because the snake took over the woodpecker's nest in the tree. In an attempt to "drive" the snake out of its home, the woodpecker attacked the snake several times, trying to peck at the 'invader' but failed.

Even the bird was bitten by the snake five times. Each time, the snake used its mouth to hold the small bird and let it fall to the ground.

The fierce battle lasted about 4 minutes. In the end, the woodpecker was seriously injured and had to leave the nest.

The video above was recorded by Assaf Admoni, 38, an engineer in the city of Herzelia, Israel during a trip on the Yarapa River in Peru.

Admoni shared, he admired the bird's perseverance and determination to fight. Unfortunately, the woodpecker's weak attacks did not drive away the venomous snake, even being bitten back and succumbing in pain. He didn't know what would happen to the bird after that.

Female woodpeckers lay small, gray eggs among warm hollows made of straw and leaves. Both mother and father birds take great care of their young, often returning to the nest to check on the chicks. Therefore, after watching the video, many people believe that the woodpecker acted like a mother protecting her child. There may be young birds or eggs in the nest.
