Wild rabbit crisis in Australia

Perhaps you will never believe that the cute, small rabbits have caused widespread ecological destruction in Australia for over 150 years.

Before the 1850s, rabbits did not appear in Australia. So, a British man who immigrated to Australia named Thomas Austin imported a pack of 24 wild rabbits from England into Australia and released them into the wild to "have a hunting ground". The number of wild rabbits quickly exploded, reaching 10 billion in the 1920s.

In the 1950s, to control the number of wild rabbits the Australian government had to resort to biological methods. To this day, Australia spends about $ 100 million a year dealing with this rodent.
