Razer launched a cheaper external GPU, supporting macOS
Razer has just introduced a new external GPU, complementing Core with Core X, adding support for Apple's MacBook Pro with Thunderbolt 3 port.
Core X is a new and basic external GPU, priced at only $ 299 (while the Core V2 is priced at $ 499), although there are no features like on the Core V2, such as USB and Ethernet ports or CHroma Lightning.
However, Core X also has some improvements compared to Core V2, 100W capacity when charging via Thunderbolt, 650W power (compared to V2W V2) and 3-slot GPU support (compared to 2.2 on V2) slot).
Core X (and Core V2) both run on macOS laptops, in addition to Windows 10 support, although Razer says the device must run at least High Sierra 10.13.4 and use compatible AMD Radeon cards.
It should be noted that Nvidia has official drivers for many of its Mac cards, which can work well without the support of an OS like AMD, but it depends and at least on paper, Razer recommends AMD GPU for Mac.
Core X has started selling on Razer's website but like Core or Core V2, you have to have your own graphics card.
Since the news that macOS supports external GPUs, many people have hoped that activities requiring heavy graphics such as video editing or gaming on the Mac will become smooth. Although the supported types are not too diverse, they can meet the requirements of a portion of Mac users.
