'Pyramid' mountain peaks cause a stir in China
The recent discovery of several mountain peaks shaped like pyramids in Anlong County, Guizhou Province (China) has caused a stir, surprising netizens.
The mountain peaks resemble pyramids in China .
Speculation about the origin of the strange peaks has been circulating online, with some claiming they are prototypes of pyramids, while others assert the unique shape formed naturally or even naturally. Even these are ancient tombs.
However, experts have a scientific explanation for these "pyramid" mountain peaks. On March 16, China's Eyes News interviewed Professor Zhou Qiuwen from the School of Geography and Environmental Science at Guizhou Normal University about the 'Anlong pyramid'.
Professor Zhou Qiuwen explained that those massifs are natural phenomena and that their pyramid-like shape is due to the complex effects of nature.
He analyzed that the rocks at Anlong are limestone blocks dating back more than 200 million years from the early to middle Triassic period. The rocks were formed in a marine environment, with minerals dissolved in the water crystallizing to form the distinct layers seen today due to changes in climate and geology.
Regarding the conical nature of the peaks, Professor Zhou argues that the karst topography of the area leads to the formation of independent units from the rock mass. initial. Continuous erosion in the top layers and less erosion at the bottom results in the sharp peaks and broad bases characteristic of the pyramid shape.
Regarding the idea that rock formations are like man-made structures, Professor Zhou explained that geological processes can turn rock layers into smaller blocks, making them look like man-made structures.
