SSDs are integrated in laptops costing over VND 10 million, but due to less advertised features, this product is less interested by consumers.

In addition to removable bulk solid-state drives (SSDs) to improve desktop performance, in the past few years, manufacturers have begun integrating SSDs into laptops.

Representing the laptop industry, supermarket Tran Anh said, because at present, the price of SSD is still high, storage capacity is much lower than HDD, so manufacturers often put SSDs into laptops according to Two types: 128 - 256 GB capacity drive used in ultrabook due to the slim design, impact resistance and 16 or 32 GB SSDs used in mid-range laptops as a temporary memory (SSD cache) to Improved performance for HDD. So far, most companies like Asus, Dell, Sony, Samsung have integrated SSD models such as Asus S46, S56; Acer S7; Samsung UX21 .

The products using SSD cache are mainly in the mid-range segment (VND 10-15 million), higher than the same configuration of laptops about VND 1 million. For example, Asus K46-WX013 costs 11,399 million dong and configures it with Asus S46-WX016, but S46 adds a 24GB SSD, so the price of the team is 12,399 million dong; Asus S46-WX017H VND 15,199 million (with a licensed 24GB and Windows 8 SSD) is more expensive than K46CA-WX014 for VND 13,199 million.

According to reflections from supermarkets and computer stores, compared to products in the same segment, laptop sales using SSD cache are not high. Topcare supermarket staff (Ha Hoi) said, some laptop models use SSD cache that consumers choose to buy because of a slim, beautiful design, however, buyers do not know the machine is equipped with an additional SSD.

Currently, the majority of SSDs integrated in the laptop are designed in the form of fixed internal chip, the capacity is usually only 16 or 32 GB (very few models using removable chips can upgrade the capacity). Thanks to SSD cache, laptop starts faster, access speed, data exchange is faster and response time from standby state only takes about 2 seconds. However, laptops using SSD cache have higher power consumption due to the burden of both HDD and SSD drives.

Meanwhile, high-end ultrabooks use pure SSDs such as Acer S7, Asus UX21, UX31, Samsung Series 9, Sony T13 Touch . have many advantages such as thinner design, power saving, high performance, withstand impact. However, these lines are limited in storage capacity (only about 128 - 256 GB) because SSD prices are still quite high. When choosing these ultrabooks, users must accept a trade-off between performance and capacity. In addition, these products are located in the segment of below 30 million dong, so it is not a choice of many people.

Minh Toan, a laptop dealer, said that in the next 2 years, pure laptop computers will still be in the high-end segment, while the trend of using SSD cache will increase thanks to the cost price. and consumers' understanding of this type of drive is much higher. Technology research company iSuppli also predicts that SSD cache will be the main storage solution for future ultrabooks thanks to its ability to make computers boot faster but still ensure a large storage capacity.
