A human skeleton that is believed to be Japan's highest date estimated at 27,000 years old has been found in a collapsed cave in Okinawa, southern Japan, a local museum said.
According to data from the Okinawa Archaeological Center, the skeleton is almost complete, dating back to the Paleolithic period, apparently deliberately put into the cave, providing evidence for the first time. a particular funeral rite during that time.
Previously, the oldest human bone discovered in Japan dating back about 22,000 years ago was found in the southern main island of Okinawa in a Shirahosaonetabaru cave on Ishigaki island, southwest of Naha capital Okinawa, and archaeological research in this area lasts from 2010 to 2016.
" This is an important discovery that could mark a new chapter in Japan's human history, " said Kamenobu Kinjo, head of Okinawa Archeology Center at a press conference.
The center also said it seems that this new skeleton body may not be buried at that time because there is a part of bone found on the ground.
In addition, there are more than 1,000 fragments of at least 19 individuals who were excavated in this area.
