Yesterday (7/1) Intel officially launched the Penryn microprocessor chip exclusively for laptops and marked the launch of the 4th generation Centrino chip platform - aka the Santa platform. Rosa.
The core of the Santa Rosa platform is Mobile Intel 965 Express Chipset, which is capable of supporting all the latest Penryn chips, graphics systems and wireless network configuration. It is expected that Santa Rosa platform laptop products will start appearing in the market next week.
In addition, Intel is expected to upgrade the Centrino platform again by the end of this year, officially launching the Montevina mobile platform and introducing the market for hardware platform fully supporting Microsoft Vista DirectX 10 graphics platform. .
Processors 'green'
In total, Intel released five mobile Penryn versions - including a Core 2 Extreme version and four Core 2 Duo universal versions - with clock speeds from 2.1GHz to 2.8GHz and cache memory. L2 up to 6MB.
Similar to the mobile PC Penryn Penryn line, the Penryn version is also produced on the 45-nanometer technology line. The new 45nm architecture platform does not use lead at all. And it is expected that Intel will also eliminate Halogen completely by the end of the year to produce the chip to turn the Penryn chip into an environmentally friendly chip.
Intel says the Penryn mobile chip incorporates a new technology called Streaming Single Instruction Multiple Data Extensions 4 (SSE4) that increases the efficiency of multi-task processing and increases the chip's operating speed. ' If you compare only the normal processing between Penryn chips and some existing chips, users will find it difficult to see the difference. This is only evident if the software application is also integrated with SS4 support , 'Intel spokesman Connie Brown said.
Notebook makers are expected to begin shipping the first product lines using the Santa Rosa platform next week with the latest mobile Penryn chips.
