Microsoft has announced a roadmap to upgrade to Windows 8 for previous Windows versions.If you own a PC running XP Pro Service Pack 3, here are the steps to take to upgrade to Windows 8.

Note: When upgrading from Windows XP to Windows 8, only data files will be saved, some programs and drivers will have to be reinstalled or upgraded.

1. Processor: 1GHz or faster.

Start the Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant

After downloading, double-click the file to launch the executable file.

When upgrading to Windows 8, the Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant starts checking the system to see the compatibility with Windows 8 on the machine.

Then, a list of compatible and incompatible applications or devices will appear. Click See compatibility details for details.

Take a look at the list of programs compatible with Windows 8. The first part of the list will display incompatible programs. This is an important list to look at and print or save when users will be asked to install applications and drivers for compatibility.
