Huawei P40 series launch: A lot of cutting edge technology but most importantly Google still doesn't have
Huawei P40, P40 Pro and P40 Pro + have a new design, top-notch camera and powerful configuration, but it lacks the most important thing: Google services.
Huawei recently announced its latest high-end smartphone, the P40 series. Like many other smartphone companies, Huawei events were held online during the COVID-19 epidemic.
P40 series includes three versions: P40, P40 Pro and P40 Pro +.
New design with punched screen, square camera cluster
Huawei is always innovating in every new generation of P series, and this P40 is no exception. P40 series has a new design on both the front and the back. In particular, the front of the P40 now switches to a "punching" screen design with a dual selfie camera cluster very similar to the Galaxy S10 +; while the back of this machine is highlighted by a square camera cluster, following the trend of many current flagships like iPhone 11 and Galaxy S20 series.
The screen of the P40 is curved, but there is a very special point that it is curved on all 4 sides, including the top and bottom edges. In addition, the four corners of the edge are raised to create a edge for the user to hold.
The back of the P40 is made of rough glass, quite similar to the way Apple does on the iPhone 11 Pro. Particularly for the high-end P40 Pro + version will use the back made of ceramic.
Camera outperformed competitors in terms of specs
The P series is a model that Huawei focused on the ability to take pictures. This year, this continues to be the strong point of the P40 series.
All three P40 models are equipped with a 50MP f / 1.9 OIS main camera with 1 / 1.28 "sensor size, which is a lot bigger than rivals like the iPhone 11 Pro and the Galaxy S20 Ultra. Super wide angle 16MP (P40) and 40MP (P40 Pro / Pro +).
However, the most notable feature of the P40 series is its zoom capability. All three models of P40 have two different zoom lenses, combining a normal zoom lens and periscope zoom. In particular, the most advanced model is the P40 Pro + that can optical zoom up to 10X and digital zoom to 100X. This is on par with the S20 Ultra, but Huawei says the zoom quality of the P40 Pro + is better than Samsung's model.
Huawei also shows a lot of other technologies of the P40 series camera such as better color sensor, intelligent image processor or improved focusing capabilities.
The front camera of P40 series has a resolution of 32MP. A point worth noting is that the camera system has infrared and depth support, allowing users to unlock the face in all lighting conditions.
Strong configuration, fast charging, support 5G
The P40 uses Huawei's self-developed Kirin 990 chip, which first appeared on the Mate 30 launched last year. Huawei emphasized the connectivity of the Kirin 990, as it not only supports 5G network, but also the first all-in-one integrated solution, for higher speed and better battery life. The P40 also supports Wi-Fi 6+ with a theoretical maximum speed of 2400Mbps, which is significantly higher than the competition.
The P40 Pro and P40 Pro + are also Huawei's first models with high-frequency (90Hz) OLED screens. P40 version usually does not support this feature. As for the P40 Pro +, Huawei also equips the device with 40W wireless fast charging technology, which is among the fastest available today. The P40 Pro and P40 Pro + have a 4200mAh battery capacity.
Still no Google app
Because of the US ban, all three models of P40 will not be integrated with Google services, meaning users will not be able to use services such as Gmail, Google Maps, Youtube and especially the Play Store.
Huawei will replace Google services with its own service, called Huawei Mobile Services. Users will install the application on Huawei's AppGallery store.
Price and time of sale
In Europe, the P40 series has the following price and availability:

- Huawei P40 Pro (8GB / 256GB): 999 euros, available starting April 7
