How to create USB MultiBoot with Ventoy, create USB Boot very easily with Ventoy

With the Ventoy tool, you can quickly/easily create a USB Boot to use in case you need to reinstall your computer. Not only that, Ventoy also allows you to create USB MultiBoot in a simpler way.

What is Ventoy?

Ventoy is a tool that allows you to create USB Boot, USB MultiBoot. It is an open source tool and is free to use. You just need to install then copy the ISO files to USB to boot from them. It can be said that Ventoy is the simplest USB MultiBoot creation tool currently available.

Things to prepare

1. A computer or laptop running Windows or Linux
2. Large capacity USB (over 16GB is best)
3. ISO files of the operating systems you need to install

Download Ventoy

You can download Ventoy from the developer's home page, but TipsMake.com recommends downloading the tool from GitHub. If you use Windows, download the zip version, and if you use Linux, download the tar.gz version.

After downloading, unzip the downloaded file.

How to install Ventoy

1. On Windows
   1. To install Ventoy onto USB on Windows, open the extracted file and run the Ventoy2Disk.exe file

1. 1. 1. Next, select the USB you want to install Ventoy on and click Install
      2. If the USB has Ventoy installed and you want to update to the new version, click Update
      3. If you want to increase security, you can click Options and then select Secure Boot Support
      4. Then you wait for the installation process to complete (the Ventoy version will be displayed in the Ventoy In Device section ).

         1. If you continuously encounter errors when running Ventoy2Disk.exe , you can use Ventoy LiveCD
         2. Ventoy can be installed on a USB or drive. To avoid mistaken installation, Ventoy2Disk.exe only displays the USB list by default. You can select Show all devices to display all hard drives. However, then you will have to be careful to avoid choosing the wrong drive, leading to data loss
         3. MBR/GPT partition style option is only available during installation and will be ignored during update
         4. After updating, the first partition can be formatted as exFAT and you can reformat it as FAT32/NTFS/UDF/XFS/Ext2/3/4
2. On Linux
   1. Graphical interface mode
      1. For user convenience, from version 1.0.36 onwards Ventoy supports graphical interface mode on Linux
      2. The process of installing Ventoy on Linux in graphical interface mode is no different from operating on Windows
   2. CLI command line mode
      1. Download some uncompressed .tar.gz files
      2. You run the following command as root: sh Ventoy2Disk.sh sh Ventoy2Disk.sh { -i | -I | -u } /dev/XXX . In which, XXX is the USB you need to install, for example /dev/sdb.

Ventoy2Disk.sh CMD [ OPTION ] /dev/sdX CMD: -i install ventoy to sdX (fail if disk already installed with ventoy) -I force install ventoy to sdX (no matter installed or not) -u update ventoy in sdX -l list Ventoy information in sdX OPTION: (optional) -r SIZE_MB preserve some space at the bottom of the disk (only for install) -s enable secure boot support (default is disabled) -g use GPT partition style, default is MBR style (only for install) -L Label of the 1st exfat partition (default is ventoy)

 Note : When installing Ventoy, the USB will be formatted and all data will be lost.

Copy the ISO file to USB

After installation is complete, the USB will be divided into 2 partitions. The first partition will be formatted as an exFAT file system. You just need to copy the ISO file to this partition. Ventoy allows you to copy an unlimited number of ISO files, as long as your USB has enough capacity.

You can also copy the iso/wim/img/vhd(x) file anywhere on the USB. Ventoy will search all folders and subfolders to identify operating system files and display them in the boot menu in alphabetical order. You can also use a plugin to configure Ventoy to only search for files in a certain folder or subfolder.

How to install Windows, Linux with Ventoy

After copying the ISO file you need to install Ventoy on the USB, you just need to start the computer that needs to install Win and Linux from that USB. The Ventoy screen will start up for you to select the ISO file you want to install.
