Discover new snake species in Con Dao

The Institute of Tropical Biology (Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology) and Con Dao National Park and the Royal Ontario Museum (Canada) have just announced the new snake species discovered in Con Dao National Park, Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province. Ria - China Region in New Zealand's specialized magazine Zootaxa. This is a non-toxic snake, with an average size of about 60 cm, black or matte stripes along its body, white belly.

This snake has the scientific name Oligodon condaoensis , the Vietnamese name is Con Dao Snake .

This is the 22nd snake species recorded in Vietnam and only distributed in Con Dao. People here are quite familiar with this snake species because they often work during the day and feed near the residential area.

Around the world there are about 75 species of snakes, which are distributed throughout tropical Asia.

In addition to the new snake, scientists also discovered 29 other reptiles that inhabit the "tourist paradise" of Con Dao. In which, there are only two species in the locality: Con Dao lizard (Dibamus kondaoensis) and round lizard (Cnemapis boulengeri).
