So what exactly are these lights for, what does the principle work, and how does it work? This article will answer questions for you.

Like other electronic devices, the Switch also has indicator lights so that users can know its status. The switch consists of 4 lights in the front:

  1. System light - System Led
  2. Remote power supply light - Remote Power Supply Led (RPS)
  3. Signal light mode - Port Mode Led
  4. Port status lights - Port status Led

System light - System Led

The system light informs whether the system is powered and is functioning properly. Each time the power cord is plugged in, the Switch will start the hardware testing process.During this process, the system light will not light up.Then, if the test is successful, the light will indicate green.Conversely, when there is an error the lamp will be orange.Unfortunately, when the lights are orange, this means you have to take the device for warranty.

External light source - RPS

External power lights indicate whether the switch is powered from outside or not. This light is only lit when the switch is powered from outside.

Signal mode light and port status light

Signal mode indicator light has 4 modes (STAT, UTL, FDUP, SPEED), you can select modes by clicking on the "Mode" key, described in the following figure:

For each signaling mode, the display role of the port status lights will correspond according to the following table:

Signal light mode

Port status light

Explain

STAT

Turn off

The corresponding port has no connection

Green consecutively

Starting connection

Blueflashing

The port is exchanging data

Blue/orangeflashing

Connection failed

Orange continuously

The port is locked

UTL

Turn off

Each port status light when turned off will indicate that the Switch uses bandwidth to halve. The lights will turn off in order from right to left.If the rightmost light is off, the Switch is using less than 50% of the total bandwidth. If the next light is off, the Switch is using less than 25% of the total bandwidth .

Green

If all the lights are green, the Switch is using more than 50% of the total bandwidth

FDUP

Turn off

Port is running in half-duplex mode (half-duplex)

Green

Port running in full-duplex mode

Speed

Turn off

Port running at 10Mbps speed

Green

Port running at 100Mbps speed
