Cling Band: Samsung's bracelet-shaped smartphone
Samsung introduced a smartphone prototype with a curved screen and body forming a bracelet called Cling Band at the MWC 2023 mobile exhibition, taking place in Barcelona.
This device has a super flexible and flexible OLED screen, manufactured by Samsung with the idea that it can be used as a regular smartphone or smartwatch when worn on the wrist, depending on the purpose of use.
In straight mode, the device looks like a regular smartphone with a slim profile, full front display, and rear camera. The device is also equipped with a USB Type-C port and an external speaker at the bottom. On the back of the middle of the body is a structure with many small grooves that support the bending of the flexible screen.
When bent, the device looks like a dome that can wrap around the wrist. The back of the device is equipped with a camera and heart rate sensor system for health features when worn on the wrist.
Samsung has not yet completed this bendable smartphone. Currently, it only wraps part of the wrist and can fall off when shaking vigorously. When using the device in phone mode, the health monitoring sensors will not work. In addition, wearing a Cling Band while sleeping will also cause discomfort.
Currently, this is just a concept to show off technology, introducing the flexibility of flexible OLED screens from Samsung Display. But this also shows that OLED screen technology has reached a new step, helping to realize many people's ideas many years ago.
