Kaspersky: 2008 detected 15 million new malware

Statistics released by security firm Kaspersky yesterday (December 4) showed that the total number of new malware detected in 2008 reached 15 million.

Eugene Kaspersky - Kasersky CEO - said the number of new malware detected this year increased by more than 2 million compared to last year's figures.

' It's not surprising that cyber criminals can't make a lot of money this year. The economic situation is nothing to be satisfactory. But the number of 15 million makes the security industry worry. Now they realize that more investment in security technologies is needed . '

Or to be more precise, the security industry in the world is feeling anxious that being unable to keep up with the pace of expansion is becoming more and more complicated and tricks of the dangers that appear on the Internet.

Kaspersky estimates that there are currently tens of thousands of people who are operating regularly in the real world of cybercrime. At the same time, the security industry is also working hard to recruit the best experts to cope with the "increasingly powerful expansion" of the cybercrime underworld.

' It's really hard to recruit enough talented technology experts ,' said Kaspersky. ' We cannot recruit cybercriminals because it is simpler for people like this to develop an attack method that is simpler than to develop a protective measure .'

In a similar report, security firm MessageLabs said it is likely that next year will be a boom year of malicious code. The strong outbreak of malicious code and cyber attacks over the past year was due to the rapid explosion of attacks via SQL Injection errors.
