5 Registry tricks speed up Windows 8 computer faster
It's undeniable that the boot speeds of Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 are much faster than previous Windows versions, Windows 7 and Windows Vista. However, like previous versions, after using for a while, your Windows 8 computer will also slow down. Here are some Registry tips to speed up your Windows 8 computer faster.
Note: Before proceeding, you should back up the Registry to prevent a bad situation.
1. Aero Peek acceleration
Aero Peek on Windows 8 is in the desktop show option at the bottom of the Task Bar, the delay is 500 ms.
To speed up Aero Peek on Windows 8, follow the steps below:
Step 1:
Press the Windows + R key combination to open the Run command window, then enter regedit there and then click OK to open the Registry Editor.
Step 2:
On the Registry Editor window, navigate to the key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER => Software => Microsoft => Windows => CurrentVersion => Explorer => Advanced
Step 3:
Next right-click on the right frame, click New => DWORD (32-bit) Value . Name this new DWORD
DesktopLivePreviewHoverTime .
Step 4:
Double-click DesktopLivePreviewHoverTime, type check Decimal and enter 500 in the Value Data box and click OK.
Step 5:
Restart your computer and see the change.
2. Speed up Taskbar Preview
On Windows 8, you will see a small box when scrolling the arrow key icon in the Taskbar. However, this process will take a long time to preview the running applications. Standard time is 400 milliseconds. To speed up Taskbar Preview, follow the steps below:
Step 1:
Press the Windows + R key combination to open the Run command window, then enter regedit there and press Enter or click OK to open the Registry Editor.
Step 2:
On the Registry Editor window, navigate to the key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER => Software => Microsoft => Windows => CurrentVersion => Explorer => Advanced
Step 3:
Right-click on the right frame, click New => DWORD (32-bit) Value. Name this new DWORD as ExtendedUIHoverTime.
Step 4:
Double-click ExtendedUIHoverTime and select Decimal in Base and enter 400 in the Value Data box and click OK .
Step 5:
Restart your computer and see changes.
3. Speed up Menu (menu when you double click to open the program)
When you double click to open any program and it takes a while to display the Menu. So follow the steps below to speed up the process of opening Menu on Windows 8.
Step 1:
Open the Registry Editor window, then navigate to the key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER => Control Panel => Desktop
Step 2:
Find and double-click MenuShowDelay.
Step 3:
Next enter 400 milliseconds in the Value Data frame and then click OK.
Step 4:
Restart your computer to see changes.
4. Disable Low Disk Check
If all drives on your computer are full and there is not enough storage space, on the screen you will see a warning window appear. Windows constantly checks your hard disk space without dependency and doesn't need to know how much disk space is available.
Step 1:
Open the Registry Editor, then on the Registry Editor window you navigate to the key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER => Software => Microsoft => Windows => CurrentVersion => Policies
Step 2:
Next find Explorer, if Explorer does not exist you create a new explorer. Right-click on the right pane, click Key and name this new key Explorer.
Step 3:
Select Explorer.
Step 4:
Next right-click on the right frame, then click DWORD (32-bit) Value and name this new DWORD as NoLowDiskSpaceChecks.
Step 5:
Right-click NoLowDiskSpaceChecks and select Modify .
Step 6:
On the DWORD dialog window, change the value in the Value Data frame to 1 and click OK .
5. Disable notification of type Balloons
A Balloons notification is a popup window that appears automatically on the Taskbar every time you have a new notification. If you don't like this type of notification, you can follow the steps below to disable it.
Step 1:
First open the Registry Editor.
Step 2:
On the Registry Editor window, navigate to the key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER => Software => Microsoft => Windows => CurrentVersion => Explorer => Advanced
Step 3:
Next right-click on the right frame and select DWORD (32-bit) Value and name this new DWORD as EnableBalloonTips.
Step 4:
Right-click EnableBalloonTips and select Modify.
Step 5:
On the DWORD dialog window, set the value in the Value Data frame to 0 and click OK.
