Since Apple launched the ultra-thin MacBook Air without an optical drive, there have been many ultra-thin versions competing with it, but running Windows, launched by other vendors. The first step is the Dell Adamo.

The latest MacBook Air rival comes from Samsung, 1.3kg lighter and its body is only 1.8cm thin. It seems that Samsung is trying to create a competitive image comparable to Apple's next-generation MacBook Air through its latest Series 9 model. In fact, Samsung has narrowed the price gap, which Dell failed because the Adamo model was too expensive. And though, the Series 9 is more expensive than its rival 13-inch MacBook Air, with a starting price of $ 1,649 (compared to Apple's $ 1,299), but the hardware is clearly superior.

Samsung's ultra-slim laptop has a good battery life, running 5.5 hours in battery testing, half an hour longer than the 13-inch MacBook Air. Like the MacBook Air, the Series 9 uses SSD storage (128GB), so the system starts up faster than regular laptops using HDD. In the test of switching Windows from sleep mode to ready-to-work mode, every time the lid was opened, the time was only less than 3 seconds.

Although the body is very thin, the Series 9 incorporates more communication ports than the MacBook Air. Samsung has included two USB 2.0 ports (one port is used for charging during sleep mode), a Mini HDMI port, headphone / mic jack, and a microSD memory slot. However, the lack of a regular SD memory card port is quite an inconvenience because this card is quite popular. While MacBook Air does not have an Ethernet RJ45 network port, the Series 9 still has an exclusive Samsung port for attaching a dongle to an Ethernet network port. Compared to the MacBook Air, it costs more than US $ 350, but in return you get a more powerful processor, an Ethernet network interface, and twice as much memory.
