Q3 2010: Acer presents Chrome netbook

Acer senior vice president Jim Wong said Acer will release the first netbook running on Chrome OS in the third quarter of 2010 .

Analysts say Google's Chrome operating system is for netbooks, which support low-profile computers. This operating system is suitable for people who need to use office applications, surf the net and work on the web.

Information that Acer will introduce netbooks in mid-2010 is not new. This information has been posted on technology websites since December 2009. Recently, this information was officially confirmed by Acer's leader.

Jim Wong, senior vice president and president of IT products business of Acer, said the netbook running on Chrome OS will be introduced to users by the third quarter of this year. This will be the first netbook to use the Chrome platform.

However, Acer's leader did not disclose details about the product model as well as its target market. Acer estimates that the total number of netbooks sold in 2010 will reach about 12-15 million units.

Acer hopes that sales of devices running on Chrome will account for about 6.7-8.3% of the total netbook sold. This shows the airline's optimism in the consumption of netbook products on the market.

In addition to confirming the launch of the first netbook running on Chrome OS, Acer has also revealed the information it is producing, which is an e-reader device. This device will be introduced in the European and Asian markets at the same time as the launch of the Chrome netbook.
