Scientists at Stanford Medicine School of Medicine (USA) used the latest advanced imaging techniques and examined eight regions of the small intestine and large intestine of nine deceased organ donors to map them. about the human intestine.
The small intestine is the largest internal organ in the human body with an average length of about 6 meters, about four times the size of an average human.
To take pictures of the small and large intestines of the human body, experts used a technology called CODEX (also known as barcode co-detection).
The scientists, using a combination of CODEX, imaging technologies, and other novel sequences, were able to map the bowel neighborhood for the first time at the level of individual cells.
The team hopes that these new images of the human intestine will help diagnose conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome and colon cancer in its early stages.
Scientists are continuing to work to achieve the goal of creating a 3-D map of the intestine that will help in the diagnosis and treatment of digestive diseases.
