Programmer's Day is held on the 256th day of the year (September 13 in normal years and September 12 in the leap year). The 256th day is chosen because 256 is the maximum number of values ​​that 1 byte (or 8 bits) can represent in binary. The number 256 and its multiples are often used in programming.

Valentin Balt and Michael Cherviakov, two employees of Parallel Technologies, were the first to propose the establishment of Developer's Day. And to get these benefits for programmers all over the country, Valentin Balt and Michael Cherviakov had to come up with the idea for a long time, then in 2002, they tried to collect signatures to petition Russian government recognizes the 256th day of the year as a day to honor programmers.

After so many efforts, "heaven is not pleased with people", on July 24, 2009, the Russian Ministry of Telecommunications and Mass Communication officially issued a draft decree to recognize the new holidays, Programmer.

On September 11, 2009, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev signed this decree, recognizing the 256th day of the year as Programmer's Day.
