An archaeologist has discovered the gold coin, believed to have been buried with an Anglo-Saxon king nearly 1,500 years ago, in an area in Chelmsford.
Chris Kutler, 54, found coins on Thursday morning during his search in the same field, where he found two similar coins 20 years ago.
He said: "After I found the first two coins 20 years ago, I came back and found nothing. This time I focused on a smaller area adjacent to the old search place.
Mr. Kutler decided to return to the area after reading an article sharing that there could be more coins hidden under the ground in this area.
He said: "I started collecting data about landmarks so I could find out the name of the place, and then plan to conduct archeology."
"There may be more coins than that, or somewhere in this area can hide a burial place, so we will have a greater chance to explore '.
"At Crondall Hoard - 21 types of ancient coins were found and only four coins were found outside Essex."
This meager treasure was sent to the British Museum for analysis and pricing, expected to be between 5,000 and 10,000 pounds, although the currency will not be placed for sale in the market.
These coins are valid from about 640 after SCN, so if research from the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford confirms that they contain 10% gold, they will be classified as a kind of treasure ".
