Apple launches Covid-19 website and screening application
This is an online screening tool for reference. Apple notes that direct guidance from local authorities and health agencies is still more valuable.
Today, Apple has launched a new website and application on iOS, aimed at helping screen Covid-19. Apple's website and apps provide online screening tools, information on Covid-19 disease and guidelines for disease prevention, isolation and when testing is needed.
Apple developed the website and application based on a collaboration with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and the White House.
After visiting the Apple website or app, you will be asked questions about symptoms, recent travel history, and your contact with people who have been or are currently exposed to the virus.
Upon completion of the screening test questions, you will be taken to the proposed steps for isolation, or whether you need to be tested for Covid-19.
However, Apple notes that this Covid-19 screening website and application does not replace direct guidance from local health authorities. Therefore, it is only a reference tool.
If the results show that you need to be tested for Covid-19, Apple does not give specific measures on how and where you can perform the Covid-19 test. It just says that you should contact someone who can guide you through the test.
Apple says the website and apps do not require login or provide any personal information. It also does not collect location data, the information collected will not identify the user personally.
In addition to this tool, you can also ask questions directly to the virtual assistant Siri. Siri will ask you to answer some screening questions and guide you to the latest information from the CDC.
