Admire the unique photograph of the Moon and Earth taken from Mars

The image shows the exact position and size of the Moon and Earth relative to each other. The Earth is about 30 times bigger than the Moon from the Earth's diameter.

NASA's Mars orbiting probe (MRO) used high-resolution cameras to take pictures from a distance of the Earth and the Moon. This unique image of the Earth and the Moon is superimposed on two single exposure photos. They were taken when Mars and Earth were about 205 million kilometers apart and the Moon was located directly behind Earth when viewed from Mars.

The image shows the exact position and size of the Moon and Earth relative to each other. The Earth is about 30 times bigger than the Moon from the Earth's diameter. The new image also allows us to clearly see the size of the continents on Earth. The brown part in the middle of the Earth in the picture is Australia.

This unique remote image of Earth and Moon was taken by MRO on November 20, 2016, using a high-resolution camera for scientific experiments (HiRISE), which can capture small details with the diameter is only about one meter above the surface of Mars from orbit.

Mars orbit survey (MRO) survey orbit Mars (MRO). It flew into orbit of Mars (nearly circular orbit about 250-316 km from the surface of Mars) from March 2006.

The ship's findings on Mars geology will help researchers assess potential landing sites for other future missions.
