A trick to successfully steal copyrighted software at the Apple Store

On Reddit and social network X, many people said they had successfully stolen copyrighted software from the Apple Store without being stopped by Apple.

Specifically, these people went to the Apple Store and used the AirDrop feature to transfer copyrighted software files to their devices for use.

Rubik's account wrote on X on June 24 about going to the Apple Store with his Mac and transferring application files from the display device via AirDrop. This way, he can download official versions of paid applications for Mac for free without having to pay hundreds of dollars.

Account X David Jiang also said he went to the 5th Avenue Apple Store and 'airdropped' all Apple Pro Apps worth 600 USD.

According to Zinc, a software developer's account on Reddit, apps include all of Apple's relevant files and libraries contained in the .app repository. Just transfer that .app file from one computer to another to "install" that application on the new computer.

Topics with this content appeared on Reddit 5 months ago but until now Apple has not taken any action to prevent it. According to shared information, employees at the Apple Store saw their actions but said nothing or turned a blind eye.

According to iMore, since 2017 there has been a trick to steal copyrighted software files at the Apple Store but Apple has not intervened. The .app file is only discoverable through updates because there is no verification process, no Apple ID association.
