To increase productivity and speed of Vivaldi browser, you should not ignore the tips and tricks later
Chrome is designed for everyone, Firefox ensures security and privacy and Safari is only available on Apple's platform. All of these browsers are relatively simple, although you can add features using extensions but it is also a "double-edged sword" when it can slow down performance or bring in security risks.
Vivaldi browser is different, it has many built-in features, updated and optimized continuously. Some features are not available in extensions on other browsers. Here are some tips and tricks for speeding up and improving Vivaldi's performance.
1. Save the tabs to view later using the Sessions Tab
For many people, managing browser tabs also brings more trouble than the benefits it brings. They often open multiple tabs at once to view them later, resulting in reduced performance.
But with Vivaldi browser, there is a feature that can help you save tabs to read later, the Sessions Tab . You just need to go to File> Save Open Tabs as Session , name the session and click OK . In case you just want to save some tabs, you just need to drag them into a separate window, then save the tabs for that window. If you use Vivaldi Sync, you can even open your session on another device. To access the saved session, go to File> Open Saved Sessions .
2. Arrange tabs using the Tab Stacks feature
Another way to handle tab overloading is to combine multiple tabs into one tab using the Tab Stacks feature. Once combined, the Stack works like a tab with its own internal tabs and you can continue to switch these tabs as usual. This feature helps in arranging and re-tabging.
To create a Stack, drag a tab overlay to another tab and wait until it turns dark then release the tab. To remove tabs from the Stack, you can right-click it and select Ungroup Tab Stack or just drag and drop each tab from the Stack.
3. Arrange tabs using Tiling Tab
In most browsers, if you want to see multiple pages side by side, you have to open multiple windows, but with Vivaldi everything becomes simpler with Tiling Tab.
Once you have created the Stack Tab , right-click Stack and select Tile Tab Stack . Now whenever you select Stack, you will see all the pages in that Stack are stacked side by side. You can navigate to another tab then go back to Stack and it is still arranged as such. With the icon set on the Status Bar, users can change options such as displaying pages vertically, horizontally or in grid form.
To use this feature, simply select multiple tabs by holding down the Ctrl key and clicking on the tab you want to sort, right-click any selected tab, then select Tile Tabs . If you want to remove this feature, just right-click on a tab and click Untile Selection .
4. Browse the web better with Sidebar Tabs
When installing Vivaldi for the first time, you may have selected the settings for the top tab bar. Setting up like this is normal for most browsers and apps, but on Vivaldi, you can change this tab.
Go to Vivaldi's settings, navigate to the Tabs page and you can change the tab's position with the Tab Bar Position option with the left or right position options so that the tabs are vertically stacked. together. This is more efficient because it allows you to place multiple tabs on the screen at once and is easier to navigate.
Still on this page you can scroll down and access the Display Tab settings, Uncheck the box labeled Show Tab Thumbnails . If the thumbnail is enabled, these tabs are too large and take up a lot of space.
5. Pin pages open
If you always need to open a certain tab in your browser, such as Google, Facebook, YouTube, etc., Vivaldi will be very helpful. Most users choose PinTab to be unable to close the tab, but it has one downside: you still have to click on the pinned tab to view the site.
Instead, if you turn these tabs into Web Panel , you can let them stay open while browsing other tabs normally. A great tip is to open the search tool using the Web Panel, when you can search while working on other tabs without leaving your job. This Web Panel is especially useful for reference sites such as Wikipedia or API.
To add a Web Panel , make sure that the Panel Bar is opened by clicking on the Show Panel at the bottom left of Vivaldi. In Panel Bar , click the Add Web Panel button to add the current tab / page as a Web Panel or enter the specific URL you want.
6. Quick search with the nickname of search engines
Suppose you set Bing as the default search engine, but sometimes you don't get the best results. Instead of wasting time navigating to google.com, you can use the search engine's nickname.
For example, instead of typing "allergy symptoms" in Bing's search address bar, you can type "g allergy symptoms" to search specifically on Google.
Vivaldi has some nicknames of default search engines like Wikipedia and Ecosia but you can create your own nicknames for other tools. In fact, it works with any page with URL parameters, not just search engines.
7. Make notes while browsing
The Notes feature in Vivaldi is a bit unusual so users need time to adjust to it, but once you're familiar with it you'll find it difficult to live without this feature. This can be seen as revolutionary when bookmarking and the browser tab is first launched.
In Panel Bar (click on Show Panel at the bottom left if you don't see it), select the Notes Panel panel to view your notes. Here you can create and delete Notes and create folders to organize your notes.
Notes are formatted using Markdown . You can link individual Notes with a specific URL, attach screenshots or other images, and search all Notes at any time.
8. Read articles without ads
You don't want to use ad blockers because you don't want to harm the creator's content. But if you regularly see an article filled with ads, does this bother you?
That's when the Reader View feature works, it takes the article content, removes other things, and presents it in an easy-to-read way. To enable this feature, simply click on the Reader icon next to Address Bar .
9. Use commands quickly, not shortcuts
Previously, we used browser shortcuts, but Vivaldi provided a more efficient solution with Quick Commands . Instead of having to remember thousands of different keyboard shortcuts. Quick Commands allow you to type the actions you want to perform.
- 44 shortcuts are useful on all browsers
Just press F2 to open the Quick Commands command window, then type the command. For example, 'Task Manager' to launch Vivaldi Task Manager. You can use the arrow keys to select from the results that appear. In addition, users can also use the Quick Commands command window to perform a web search, which is faster than using the mouse to click on the address bar.
10. Create a mouse gesture to perform the task
For frequently used actions, you should make a habit of using Mouse Gestures . To do this, click on the right mouse button, draw gestures related to the action, and then release the mouse button.
Vivaldi has a series of default mouse gestures but you can create your own gestures and link them to any Vivaldi action. Mouse Gestures help you browse the web effectively with just the mouse.
In addition to the above features, you should note that Vivaldi is a Chromium-based browser so you will get many other security features and basic features found in other Chromium-based browsers like Chrome, Opera and Brave.
Although Vivaldi is mostly used on Windows desktops and laptops, it is also a powerful browser option for Raspberry Pi and one of the best browsers for Linux users.
