Memories

The Memories section of the ?Photos? app has been overhauled in ?iOS 15?, making it easier than ever to relive your favorite memories.

The Memories feature has a new look that includes cards with responsive titles, new animations and transitions, and multiple collages for a more cinematic feel. There are new looks added to Memories based on each photo and video. Apple uses Machine Learning technology to apply appropriate contrast and color adjustments for a consistent look. Apple says the feature is designed to mimic what people in charge of color grading at movie studios usually do.

When playing a Memory (a short clip consisting of your commemorative photos and videos), there is an interactive interface that allows you to tap to pause, play back the last photo, skip to the next photo, or move forward ( music designed to continue playing). Changing songs, deleting or adding photos, or adjusting the Memory look are done in real time without the need to recombine the images. To make navigating Memories easier, there's a new Browse view so you can see all your photos and videos in a panoramic view.

Live Text

Any text in photos or images on ?iPhone? is now recognized by ?iPhone? through the new Live Text feature.

Text in an image can be selected, copied and pasted, used with the Lookup feature, and can even be translated into another language. You can take a picture of an item with text in a foreign language and the text translated right from the photo.

This feature works with all images in the ?Photos? app, and is also compatible with screenshots, Safari, and the live camera viewer.

Visual Lookup

In certain photos, ?iPhone? can now recognize multiple objects, landmarks, animals, books, plants, artwork, and more. For example, if there's a photo of a flower on the ?iPhone?, you can use Visual Lookup to determine what flower it is based on a web search of images that Apple does automatically.

When viewing an image, if the "I" icon has a small star on it, it means you can check the image with Visual Lookup. Tap the Info icon and then tap the small leaf icon to open the search.

View and edit metadata

In ?iOS 15?, if you tap the new "Info" icon below the photo, you can see the camera used to capture, the lens, shutter speed, megapixels, size, aperture, etc. EXIF files you can get from the ?Photos? desktop app.

In this interface, you can add captions and adjust the date and time of your photos through the added Adjust button. Prior to ?iOS 15?, none of this information was available on iOS devices.

Sync iCloud Photo Library Faster

Shared With You

If someone shares a photo or video with you in the Messenger app, that photo or video will show up in the new Shared With You section in the ?Photos? app.

If it's a photo taken while you're present, it will appear in All ?Photos? view and in Day, Month, and Year view, as well as in ? Featured ?Photos? and Memories.

?Photos? in the Shared With You section can easily be saved to your photo library, and you can reply to messages with a tap right from the Photos app?.
