Is the Focus feature on iPhone similar to Do Not Disturb?
Apple expanded Do Not Disturb and called it Focus, and included Do Not Disturb within Focus. Now you can create your own custom Focus mode or use Apple's preset Focus modes.
However, this seems to have caused some confusion among users. How exactly is Do Not Disturb mode different from Focus? The answer will be in the article below!
How is Do Not Disturb different from Focus?
As the article emphasized in the introduction, Do Not Disturb is a preset for Focus mode. The way Apple arranges the path to enable and edit Do Not Disturb on iOS even reflects that it belongs to the Focus section.
You can enable Do Not Disturb on iPhone by going to Control Center , pressing and holding Focus , and selecting Do Not Disturb from the menu. Similarly, you can edit the Do Not Disturb setting by going to Settings > Focus on your device.
While other Focus presets seem to have specific goals (for example, Driving Focus is designed to minimize distractions while driving), Do Not Disturb is a general preset designed to stop notifications for how long. optional.
Therefore, Do Not Disturb is different from Focus because this is a Focus preset. So even though Do Not Disturb is a Focus mode, Focus is not Do Not Disturb.
Focus used to be Do Not Disturb in iOS
Focus didn't exist on the iPhone until iOS 15. Instead, the only way to mute notifications was "Do Not Disturb," a feature Apple introduced with iOS 6 back in 2012.
Apple built on the Do Not Disturb concept to create Focus, which offers a lot more flexibility and many other features to help you avoid digital distractions.
The root of the confusion is that many people are so used to Do Not Disturb mode that when it is expanded to Focus, they simply don't care. It doesn't help that Apple keeps Do Not Disturb in Focus mode.
However, it's probably more accurate to say that your iPhone is in Focus mode. But people will still understand if you say the device is in Do Not Disturb mode.
