Last week, Microsoft said the final version of IE9 would require Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1). According to the latest FAQ, this is no longer true.
Microsoft said that, when released, IE9 will not require Windows 7 SP1 but will install on systems running Windows 7 RTM or Windows 7 with SP1. Despite the change in expression, Microsoft said its plan for IE9 has not changed.
Although IE9 will be able to run on pre-SP1 versions of Windows 7, the system will be required to reboot to install additional operating system components (OS).
According to Microsoft, businesses should not wait for IE9 to deploy Windows 7. Instead, they should deploy to switch to Windows 7 with Internet Explorer 8 and upgrade to IE9 when it's ready.
