Collect the necessary crafting materials. To make a funnel, you need the following items:

5 iron ore - Iron ore is a gray block with orange/peach colored dots on top, mainly found in caves or cliff faces. At a minimum, you need a stone pickaxe to mine iron.

2 blocks of wood (wood) - Chop two blocks from nearly any tree in Minecraft. This is the step to get eight wooden planks so you can craft a chest.

Fuel Source - You can use coal, found when mining the gray block with the black dot on it, or you can use wooden planks.

Furnace - Furnace is crafted by placing eight cobblestone blocks around the edge of the crafting table.

Crafting Table - A crafting table is created by placing 2x2 wooden planks in the "crafting" box in the inventory.

Create monster traps. Place the hopper and chest on top of each other at the bottom of the 30 block deep shaft, then if a monster is lured to your position it will fall to its death and drop any items held in the chest below the hopper.

Pay attention to the capacity of the chest, because if the chest is full, the trap will no longer help you collect items from monsters.

After doing so, you can place unprocessed food (such as chicken) in the oven to cook. When cooking is finished, that food will be automatically transferred to the chest.

Make sure the tube part of the funnel is facing the chest. Otherwise, the food will fall out of the hopper.
