Currently, if you have set a specific password, you are only allowed to unlock your device if you enter that password correctly. This means that if you forget your password for any reason, your iPhone will be locked. However, iOS 17 provides an option that allows users to reset their password even if they forget it. There is just one small note that you must remember if you want to save your iPhone from being permanently locked.

Accordingly, Apple will add a new feature that allows users to reset the iPhone's new password with the previous password within 72 hours after changing. To put it simply, if you change your phone's password but forget it, you'll still have 72 hours to get back to your old password. However, the thing to remember is that you must remember the old password before creating a new one.

When you enter the wrong password, the system will display the message "Forget Passcode?' (Forgot password?) as an option. After tapping this notification, you will be redirected to another page with the option 'Try Passcode Reset'. You will have to enter your old password and then be allowed to create a new password.

If you think this option will allow strangers to access your iPhone, there is another option in the iOS 17 Settings app that will immediately disable the previous password. This is a quite convenient feature in case you forget your new password while still remembering your old password.

Apple also integrates many features that highlight user privacy and security in iOS 17. However, the company has not yet introduced the option to restrict strangers from accessing your iPhone in case of They accidentally captured the device's password.
