Windows Subsystem for Android was suddenly discovered on the Microsoft Store
But while more details are yet to be revealed, technology leaker WalkingCat recently stumbled upon an app called Windows Subsystem for Android on the Microsoft Store app store. This is most likely the software environment that supports the ability to run Android applications directly on the Windows 11 platform. Similar to what we already know with the Windows Subsystem for Linux tool, which is no longer strange.
Earlier, there was also information that Microsoft is focusing on perfecting Android-enabled applications ready for Windows 11. Windows Subsystem for Android will likely be an important part of that plan. And the fact that this application suddenly appeared on the Microsoft Store is probably for internal testing purposes.
The Microsoft Store app description is still a stub. At the same time, Microsoft also urged testers to 'Please do not take screenshots or discuss content'. Actual testing shows that installing and running this application only results in a black window with no effect. This further shows that this is an internal test version of the application. It's just not clear why it's publicly available on the Microsoft Store at the moment.
However, there is another interesting information that Windows Subsystem for Android will likely also support Xbox One. This is found in the app's description, and is in theory an indication that Android apps can also be ported to game consoles. This is something that has yet to be confirmed, despite the fact that Microsoft itself also very much wants Windows PC environments and Xbox game consoles to be able to form a unified, convenient ecosystem for users.
In addition, there is one more information to note that the system is recommended to have at least 16GB of RAM for good performance when running Windows Subsystem for Android. This is still not a common standard for most consumer PC systems today.
