On April 1, the Korean Ministry of National Defense launched an intelligence research center to monitor the development of artificial intelligence technology in the defense sector.

According to Yonhap news agency , the research center, which has about 110 civilian and military personnel, will focus on developing technologies related to intelligence-based manned and unmanned coordination systems. artificial intelligence, assessing conflict situations as well as applying artificial intelligence technology in the civil sector to the military.

The establishment of the above center is part of Korea's 4.0 defense innovation initiative. Accordingly, the number of personnel in the military will be less but operate more effectively based on artificial intelligence and other advanced technologies.

The ceremony to establish the defense AI center was held at the Defense Development Agency run by the Korean Government in Daejeon city, away from the capital, with the attendance of Defense Minister Shin Won-sik and Minister Lee Jong-ho Science.

Within the framework of the launch event, two ministers Shin Won-sik and Lee Jong-ho also signed a memorandum of understanding between the Ministry of National Defense and the Ministry of Science, to strengthen cooperation in important technology fields, needed future needs such as artificial intelligence, semiconductors, aerospace and the Internet.

According to the cooperation memorandum, the two sides will promote research and development to strengthen cooperation between the private sector and the military, and use civilian and military infrastructure to evaluate the research of other countries. national universities and research institutes.
