The Korea Meteorological Agency (KMA) said the capital Seoul witnessed the first cherry blossoms blooming, a symbol of spring's arrival, on April 1.

KMA made the above statement when observing the 60-year-old cherry blossom tree planted in front of the Seoul Meteorological Station in the central district of Jongno, which KMA uses as a standard to determine the date cherry blossoms begin to bloom in Seoul.

This year's cherry blossom bloom date is a week later than last year but still marks the fifth earliest blooming date since the KMA began conducting observations in 1922.

Normally, the first cherry blossoms bloom on April 8 every year, and the earliest recorded cherry blossom season to date is in 2021 when the first flowers bloom on March 24. .

Experts believe that the reason cherry blossom season has started earlier in recent years is due to climate change causing the Earth's temperature to increase.

2014 is the first year Seoul witnessed the first cherry blossoms blooming in March (March 28).

Before 2014, the Korean capital had never seen any cherry blossoms officially bloom in March.

In Spring in Korea, cherry blossoms often bloom after yellow bell flowers and then azalea flowers with clearly distinguished periods of time.
