Quick tips to speed up copying and moving data on USB in Windows 10

To quickly move data from one computer to another, users often use external storage devices such as USB or portable hard drives. However, the process of moving data or copying from USB to a computer and vice versa often takes a lot of time if the data is large, in addition, sometimes this process can reduce the performance of computers, making your work more stagnant.

Fortunately, there are still some tips to help you easily speed up copying and moving data on USB in Windows 10, specifically as follows.

1. Use the USB port on the back of the case

On a traditional desktop case, there are multiple ports that can connect to USB, including a port on the front and a port on the back of the CPU. Usually, users often have the habit of using the front USB connector for convenience.

However, you probably do not know that in order for the data transfer speed between USB and computer to be faster, you should connect to the rear port, because this port is soldered directly to the motherboard and runs Intel chipset so speed faster than the previous port. In addition, the USB connection port behind the CPU also has a more stable power supply. So before making any changes to speed up USB data transfer, try using the USB port on the back.

2. Update the USB Driver

Connect the USB to the computer, open Device Manager and navigate to Disk Drives, right-click the corresponding USB Flash Drive and select Update driver.

The driver update option window appears, click Scan automatically for updated driver software.

3. Reformat the USB and enable hardware acceleration option

Connect the USB to the computer, right-click on the USB and select Format.

The format setting window appears, change the selection in the File System to "NTFS" and cancel the check mark in "Quick Format" and then click Start.

After you've formatted the USB drive, continue to right-click and select Properties, then click the Hardware tab, find and select the name of your USB drive and click Properties next.

Click Change Settings in the new window that appears.

Another setup dialog box appears, click the Policies tab and select the Better Performance option, then click OK to save.

Note: When the "Better Performance" option is enabled for USB, you can only disconnect the USB after clicking "Safely remove your USB".
