Security right in the browser
Web of Trust for Firefox
Web of Trust is a multi-source, multi-browser solution for assessing website vulnerabilities. The warning is quite intuitive, easy and clear enough for users to read, and this add-on does not affect the browser's performance during the test. Based on the website you visit, the software icon will turn into red, yellow, or green to display the level of danger. When you click on the widget's icon, a table will be displayed on the Trustworthiness, Vendor Reliability, Privacy, and Child Safety criteria. This utility works with Firefox, Internet Explorer, and Chrome browsers.
NoScript
This free extension for Firefox will help prevent JavaScript code from running without your consent, but NoScript does not allow users to block their methods. Click on the small, green 'S' button that NoScript adds to the toolbar to configure this utility for whitelisting the sites you are allowed to run scripts. NoScript can run an audio message to inform users about the script code that has been blocked. Among the more advanced features of the utility, the most notable is the ability to block plug-ins from running from untrusted sites. However, you cannot block NoScript from running without escaping them. Still, NoScript is still a great way to 'scare' JavaScript, but there's no better way.
Adblock Plus
One of Firefox's most popular add-ons, AdBlock Plus helps to effectively block online advertising from a predefined list of advertisers. Users can quickly customize the list by clicking on the "stop sign" button of AdBlock Plus in the navigation bar or status bar. Adblock Plus works without hindering in the background, and right clicking on an ad displays a dialog box, from which you can easily add to the list of blocked ads. Removing an ad from a blank list is as simple as clicking and selecting the appropriate option. While similar utilities exist on other browsers, such as Google Chrome and Opera, none of them have a reputation for being able to work on Thunderbird and SeaMonkey.
AVG LinkScanner Free Edition 2011
AVG restored LinkScanner as a free standalone plug-in for Firefox and Internet Explorer. "Search Shield" will turn results from both Google and Yahoo with flags right next to them. Blue flag on Google displays a safe result for users to click on, while secure results from Yahoo do not display a flag. This may be due to a configuration error, although restarting the browser will not change the results. Unsafe links on both search engines will display a red flag.
When clicking on a flag, more detailed information will be displayed. The green flag will display the IP address, the amount of scan time taken, and the time and date of the new scans performed. The red flags will highlight the same information, as well as dangerous entries and page names. When clicking on a page with a red flag, the user will be directed to a warning page, displaying the warning information again - AVG calls this "Active Surf-Shield". A link at the bottom of the screen has a red alert that will allow you to click, although it will note that users will continue to block similar dangerous content. Unlike other search add-ons that scan other search results, LinkScanner does not slow down the user's browsing experience.
LastPass Password Manager
This automated password management tool supports many different operating systems. On Windows, it works with Firefox, Internet Explorer, and Google Chrome, with bookmarklets available for Opera. Users can create a master password, then it will use the form autocomplete feature and log in once to simplify the password entry.

Since the data is saved on the utility's encrypted server, users can access their password remotely. If you are worried about keyloggers, LastPast can create a single password for you. The interface is a set of fields for users to fill, with some menus pulling up and down, but it is still simple enough to operate.

Norton Safety Minder
Norton Safety Minder is a Desktop application of OnlineFamily.Norton, a comprehensive system from Symantec's design, capable of executing and blocking content that parents want their children not to see. Based on parents' wishes, this application can be used to foster discussion of content. This is really not an 'install and leave it' tool.
There are many levels of management on the websites a child can access. Restrictions may depend, from a serious right to not access to help block some websites and some items, until more 'soft' email notifications are sent to parents when their children visit. sites that don't want to. On the young side, they will have the option of emailing parents when they are blocked - if parents allow them to be sent from the installation. While this is not for all parents, anything that should not be used, should be eliminated for parents or children on the Internet.
